Thanks for Answering the questions Dynamo ;)

Before you got your shows and tv appearences and such, what were you doing, magic wise? As in, how did you get the appearences, and were you performing at restaurants, etc?

All of the effects you perform do seem to have that visuallity. I believe Vlad asked a question like this, but do you perform these visual effects because effects on tv have to be visual, or because this is what you really want to perform, and like performing?

Thanks,

Keenan

Hi

What do you think about the school of thought from Vernon, Houdin etc that say magic should be natural and without any obvious displays of skill?

Clearly you don't agree with it, but I would be interested to read about why you think this is wrong.

Do you have a personal reason why you think the flourishes make magic more magical?

I agree- This is the 'Ask Dynamo' thread after all...

P.S- I have moved the discussion of the questions to their own thread in chat and news. Please lets keep this as the Dynamo Q and A only!

Hi guys... a few of you have asked what its like performing for celebs so i will use this post to answer that one.

Its definetely a buzz performing for celebs in particular celebs that you are a fan of like when i performed for snoop n jay z... ive always been a big fan of there work and have to admit that i was a bit starstruck when i first met them ...but after you've performed a few effects to them getting good reactions ...you realise that theyre human just like the rest of us and they tend to respect you as a performer more for treating them like a normalperson...if that makes sense. Its such an awesome feeling though to be respected by your peers( not that snoop or jay z are my peers in the magical sense..but i admire their work and it does inspire me).

but to be honest i just enjoy performing to people in general...whether theyre a celeb or not.

I guess i just feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity
to perform for some of the biggest names in showbiz and i feel honoured to have some of them as my friends.

I gotta agree with you there, I'm lucky enough to have performed for many high profile names too, and if you treat them just like you'd treat another spectator, they'll react even more than everyone else, because as a general rule, people don't treat them normally, they exist in this alternate world that arranges itself to their liking - whether they like it or not!

Just stopping by to say hi really, I met you at Blackpool this year, at Aaron's stall on the Sunday afternoon - I was showing an effect of mine called Timebomb, and I remember your reaction to it.

Just as you're the performer of choice in the Hip Hop community, I'm looking to become the same in the Rock/Alternative community - do you have any advice on getting started?

How did you go from performing on the street to getting your TV show, was it just a case of being in the right place at the right time, or did you work hard at getting yourself surrounded by agents who made the moves for you?

Thanks,

Brendon.

Hi guys thanks for all the great questions so far...in this post i will try answer a good majority of your questions regarding doing magic on tv.

Whenever i do a tv spot i usually choose the material i am gonna use myself...sometimes i chat with consultants to see what new /different ideas we can come up with, but it all depends on how much time i have to dedicate to the particular tv spot.

for example with the Jonathan ross show we got the phonecall on the tuesday and we filmed the show on the thursday...so i only had a day to prepare...and because i have done alot of tv shows already i am sometimes limited in the material i can use as i dont want to repeat stuff i have done on other shows. Jonathan ross show was cool though as they had seen the clip of me doing polo through neck and wanted me to do that on the show. just a shame that they cut alot of the interview segment out and just focused on the tricks as the original interview was 20 mins long...but thats the risk of going on other peoples shows ...you have no control over the edit....but the experince of doing these shows is amazing and i seem to learn so much each time i do one.

also in regards of not having control over the edit.. the clip with my colour changing shoelaces that has a negative statement about one of our peers was totally out of my control. i have an awful lot of respect to this living legend ( you all now who im talking about ) and have spoke to him since the clip got released to clear the air.

A few of you have asked about me using visual/direct effects , and i do like to use a mixture of different types of effects but have found that when im doing a tv spot i may only have 3 minutes to impress so i find the more visually direct a trick is the better it plays, but on that rare occasion where i have a decent amount of time on a show i do like to throw in a longer mentalism style routine or an effect with multiple climaxes...just depends on the situation really.

magicians always ask me how i got on tv and how you become in demand...whether to use agents etc etc

The best way to answer this question is I worked my ass off. I dont really use agents that much.. although i am on a few agents books who have got me some nice bookings over my 5 yrs as a professional magician... but i tend to handle bookings direct through my own company "mastermind management" that i setup with my business partner and manager Dan Albion which we set up a few years ago. Dan and i also own a film company "Inner circle films" and our first release through the company was my dvd Dynamo's concrete playground which was released last november and ditributed by warner bros.

I am currently working on some new projects ....but i dont want to give anything away just yet as would rather you see and hear about stuff as and when its ready.

somebody asked the question about whether i plan on becoming a household name...and to be honest i am not really that bothered as all i wanna do is be the best magician i can be and i wanna have performances that i can be proud of..wether its on tv or not i think the main objective as a magician is to give the best performance you can no matter where your performing.

sure, over the next few years i would love to have an award winning tv series...my own clothing line, do sell out tours across the country if not the world...but i have already achieved more than i ever imagined so i'm just looking forward to whats ahead whatever that may be....i just now that im gonna have a hell of a lot of fun on the way.
